The Center's Words

Celebrating 20 years of collaboration with The Cincinnati Health Network. Now, NeighborHub Health!

by | Nov 20, 2023 | The Center’s Words

The health of our clients is contingent upon a combination of the work of the Center for Respite Care’s staff and the relationships we have built with partnering organizations throughout the community. As we close out celebrating 20 years of service, we thank those with whom our work becomes possible. Today, we pay tribute to an organization that was there from the beginning and the relationship continues to this day: The Cincinnati Health Network now known as NeighborHub Health.

NeighborHub Health
The Center was founded by the collaboration of several local medical and social service professionals. These organizations were aware of the lack of options for a person experiencing homelessness and in need of medical recovery; the shelter system was not equipped to provide the support needed for individuals being discharged to the streets.

Through the collaborative efforts of Health Alliance, TriHealth, Mercy Health Partners, and over twenty-five homeless agencies, the Center was founded in 2003 as a program of the Cincinnati Health Network in the Health Resource Center, opening its doors on October 15th. The Center incorporated as a free standing 501 (C) 3 non-profit in 2005.

The Cincinnati Health Network is a special organization. Several of our key board members and individuals close to the Center have long-held ties with CHN. In October, the agency went public with its new name: NeighborHub Health. CEO, Brian VanderHorst, explains, “We take our role as a hub of services for this population seriously, and our new name says it all. We’re committed to helping our neighbors experiencing homelessness by providing a hub of comprehensive resources to serve their health needs.”

Their Mission:

To provide medical, dental, and behavioral healthcare, as well as support services for the homeless and HIV populations.

Their Vision:

By 2032 be a primary regional provider and coordinator of integrated health care and comprehensive resources for the homeless and HIV populations.

NeighborHub Health is a system of health care and supportive service providers that create a seamless continuum of care for people experiencing homelessness in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. NHH offers a comprehensive program of primary medical and mental health services, substance abuse addiction treatment, respite care, and referrals to dental and other health services.

NeighborHub Health, through the Health Care for the Homeless Program, partners with experienced organizations and community providers to address the gaps in service delivery and improve the overall health status of those experiencing homelessness.

As the only Federally Qualified Health Center in this area dedicated exclusively to meeting the complex healthcare needs of homeless individuals and families and recognized as a Patient-Centered Medical Home by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), NHH plays a critical role in serving over 1,000 patients annually.
