Volunteers: You Make US Better

We are who we are because of our volunteers.
Our volunteers provide entertainment, care and services and brighten the days of our staff and clients.
We could not do it without you.

We benefit from a dedicated corps of volunteers, many associated with Faith based and Civic organizations.

Our new (but several years old now) location has allowed the expansion of volunteer opportunities. This has included musical talent performances, art lessons and games.

Primary efforts have included contributions to meal programs,  learning and leisure activities, conducting various wish list drives and keeping things spruced up – light maintenance, plantings in the courtyard and helping the clients with holiday decorating.

In terms of learning activities, professionals from various fields – medical, finance, social work, and dietary expertise have provided ongoing educational opportunities both to the entire client group and to individuals.

The Center’s 2020 volunteers of the year were therapy dogs, Sadie (of happy memory) and Jasmine along with their respective companions Carolyn and Jennifer.

During fiscal year 2018-19 the number of volunteers, volunteer hours and attributed value was up 7% from the prior year, the year before the move.

During fiscal year 2019-2020 volunteers, hours contributed, and attributed value was up another 2%.

The pandemic crisis has caused us all to rethink volunteer opportunities. Despite having to close access to visitors our volunteers have creatively continued the volunteer meal program. It’s sort of a drive through in reverse! Several groups and individuals have provided grocery gift cards to assist the Center in accessing perishable items. Some have taken on the weekly grocery run. Drives for clothing and personal care items have continued.

We look forward to volunteers interaction with the clients. Until then, people continue give their time, talent and treasure on behalf of the Center’s clients.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Please reach out if you are interested in joining our volunteer family.
