Words From Our Client: Meet T

by | Mar 1, 2021 | The Center’s Words

T.
Our client is named T. She has recovered and is healthy. She leaves this week to go to stable housing and a job. She is a portrait of the work that we do. She is eager, positive, enthusiastic and well. She has received her round of COVID vaccines. T is excited about starting the next chapter of her life.

“I had to learn that this was not like a shelter.  I prepared for the worst, but when I first got here, I was greeted with respect and courtesy. The staff was hands on and was amazing from the receptionist on down. It has been great and has given me time to heal physically, mentally and spiritually. I was able to do some training classes and get some certifications done. It’s been an awesome experience for me,” T said.

Importantly, she explains that her new job is located close to her home which minimizes transportation challenges. The Center has thought of everything to ease her transition.

“I grew up in Cincinnati, but I was born in Cleveland,” she said as she explained that she made new Cincinnati friends. She explains the generosity of the staff and other clients.

“She gave me clothes and she gave me things that she might think that I liked. I kept it because it’s a gift so like from day one coming. It was just like a big old hug from the staff and the people here.”

T explains that the Center’s team is full of love. Her days have been filled with healing, activities and making lifelong friends.

“I’m very big into puzzles I’ve done some puzzles here. I think I did like four or five.  I’ve been reading we have groups here, so they give us like some something to do. We made things for Christmas. We play board games, cards, dominos.”

T feels that she is ready for her next phase of life.

“I’ve learned not only about myself and exactly how the world works. I thank the staff from Mendy to Patrice to Shayla to the other night nurses and all the staff. They have been a tremendous help. If I needed anything or had a problem, they made it easy for me to come to them.”

T represents the positive human outcomes that the Center team works with daily. Even during times of COVID, the team works tirelessly to fulfill the dreams of our clients.
